TagTrinity College to Rename Its Berkeley Library
Trinity College Dublin’s main library has been known as the Berkeley Library, after philosopher George Berkeley, since its opening in 1967, but its name will now change, owing to Berkeley’s ownership of slaves and his writing of a pamphlet suggesting slaves would be more obedient if baptised. Searle Found to Have Violated Sexual Harassment Policies (Updated with further details and statement from Berkeley)
Well-known philosopher John Searle, who began teaching at the University of California, Berkeley in 1959, has been stripped of his emeritus status there owing to the finding that he violated the university’s sexual harassment policies.
Berkeley’s Handwritten “Manuscript Introduction” Digitized
Kenny Pearce, a professor of philosophy at Trinity College Dublin, has been working with his university’s library to produce a digitized version of Berkeley’s handwritten introduction to his Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge, which differs in significant ways from versions that have been published. Michael Martin Heads To Oxford

Sexual Harassment, Assault, and Retaliation Lawsuit Against John Searle
John Searle, the Willis S. and Marion Slusser Professor Emeritus of the Philosophy of Mind and Language at the University of California, Berkeley, is being sued for sexual harassment, assault, and retaliation by a former female Berkeley undergraduate who worked for him as an assistant at the John Searle Center for Social Ontology. Joshua Cohen to Join Berkeley Faculty
