World Philosophy Day this year is Thursday, November 19th, 2026.

World Philosophy Day, created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), celebrates “the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.”
UNESCO’s theme for this year’s World Philosophy Day is “How can we coexist in a world in crises?”, with emphasis on issues related to migration, climate, artificial intelligence, and health.
Some philosophy departments take advantage of the day to promote philosophy, present interactive programs, or put on philosophy events (see the comments on this previous post, for example).
Is your department planning something to mark the day? If so, let us know about it in the comments—it’s not too late to provide inspiration for other departments looking for ideas.
