Barry Hoffmaster (1947-2025)
Charles Barry Hoffmaster, professor emeritus of philosophy at Western University, has died.

Professor Hoffmaster (known in the profession as Barry Hoffmaster), worked mainly in bioethics, normative ethics and the philosophy of law, writing on a wide range of subjects in these areas. He is the co-author of Re-Reasoning Ethics: The Rationality of Deliberation and Judgment in Ethics (MIT 2017) and the co-editor of several collections. You can learn more about his work here.
Hoffmaster joined the Department of Philosophy at Western in 1977. He earned his PhD and MA in philosophy from the University of Minnesota, and his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Dartmouth College.
Professor Hoffmaster died on October 26, 2025.
