Bence Nanay, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Antwerp, has been awarded the 2025 Ernest-John Solvay Excellence Prize in the Humanities.

Bence Nanay accepts the Solvay Prize from the King of Belgium, Philippe.

The Humanities prize is awarded once every five years. Its aim is to “reward the scientific career of prominent researchers affiliated with a Flemish university or eligible research organization.”

The prize is 100,000 euros.

The laureate of the Ernest-John Solvay Excellence Prize 2025 in Cultural Sciences is Professor Bence Nanay, a philosopher and cognitive scientist at the University of Antwerp. Nanay demonstrates that philosophy does not have to be a closed system. His interdisciplinary work, which also incorporates technology, contributes to a better understanding of how people think and what influences this.
