Menn from McGill to Toronto

Stephen Menn, currently Professor of Philosophy at McGill University, will be moving to the University of Toronto, where he will be the inaugural holder of the Michael and Virginia Walsh Chair in the History of Philosophy.

The position was endowed by a significant gift by the Walsh’s to the Toronto Department of Philosophy last year.

Professor Menn specializes in ancient philosophy, Medieval philosophy (including Islamic philosophy), and the history and philosophy of mathematics. He is the author of Plato on God as Nous (1995), Descartes and Augustine (1998), and many other works, which you can learn more about here.

Menn will continue to hold an honorary professorship at Humboldt University of Berlin. In addition to his appointment in Philosophy at Toronto, he will also be a member of the graduate faculty in Classics.

He takes up his new position at Toronto in January, 2026.

Does that mean my Stepen Menn rookie card won’t be worth anything now?
