Connell from Birkbeck to Notre Dame


Sophia Connell, currently reader in philosophy at Birkbeck, University of London, will be moving to the University of Notre Dame, where she will be associate professor of philosophy.

Dr. Connell specializes in ancient Greek philosophy, especially Aristotle, and has also written on the role of women in the history of philosophy. She is the author of Aristotle on Women: Physiology, Psychology, and Politics (2021) and Aristotle on Female Animals: A Study of the Generation of Animals (2015), among other works, which you can learn more about here and here.

She takes up her new position at Notre Dame in January, 2026.

Well, Birkbeck’s philosophy department was gutted. You take the jobs where you can.

Wow. Birkbeck upper management has really f-ed up… Everyone who has managed to jump ship has landed at much better institutions.
