Philosophers Against Malaria Fundraising Results

The Philosophers Against Malaria Fundraising Competition has come to a close. Which philosophy department won?

We’ll get to that.

But first: the competition raised $21,500!

According to Malte Hendrickx (Michigan), who organized the fundraiser, that’s enough for around 10,500 anti-mosquito bednets.

And now to the results. Mr. Hendrickx writes:

The University of Delaware has come in first and thus carries the crown of the most virtuous department. Go Blue Hens!

The University of Michigan, last year’s winner, came in second by just $50. A last-minute pooling of donations on Christmas Eve was insufficient for the Wolverines to overtake the Hens.

The third place, somewhat surprisingly, goes to the more worldly philosophers at the Michigan Economics Department, which joined in on the fun. I’m very happy they did!

Over the three years the competition has run, Hendrickx notes, it has generated over $60,000 in charitable donations.

The full results of the competition are here.

This is an outrage. I can’t believe philosophers, of all people, are against malaria fundraising.

I don’t know. Malaria is scary enough without it getting involved in fundraising.

Jokes aside, I could actually easily believe that.
