SLU Philosophy Receives $2 Million Gift

The Department of Philosophy at Saint Louis University (SLU) recently received a $2 million gift which it will use to fund endowments for a faculty chair and a student scholarship.

The donation was from one of the department’s own faculty, Theodore R. Vitali. Professor Vitali received his PhD from SLU in 1976 and has been a member of the faculty there since 1989. The gift is in the form of designating the department as the beneficiary of his retirement account.

The endowed chair will be named in Professor Vitali’s honor. The scholarship will be awarded to full time undergraduate or graduate students in philosophy who are members of the Passionist Congregation, an order of Catholicism of which Professor Vitali is a member.

There’s further information about the gift here.
