TeachPhilosophy101 is an open-source compendium of resources helpful for teaching philosophy. It’s mission is “to enhance undergraduate student learning in introductory philosophy courses by providing free, user-friendly strategies and resources to the academic community.”
The site covers everything from planning a course (including things like syllabi construction, the setting and integration of course goals , and suggestions on expanding the canon) to structuring class time to (including what to do on the first day of class, classroom assessment techniques, and various ‘change of pace’ exercises) to general resources on pedagogy and how to deal with instructional challenges and more. If you browse the site for a little while you’re bound to find something useful.
The site was created by John Immerwahr (Villanova) several years ago and has now been revamped under the editorship of Erin C. Tarver (Emory). It’s sponsored by Oxford College of Emory University and Philosophy Documentation Center.
