We are a residential, “Intellectual salon” style summer program led by Princeton/Harvard/Oxford PhD students, including Joe Schmid of the YouTube Majesty of Reason channel. Fire-hose style curriculum exposes students to *20* different topics in philosophy and decision sciences over 2 week period. On a typical day, students will wake up, have breakfast and then join a group of 10 students and one PhD student for a seminar about the existence of free will. The graduate student will start with the state of the art articulation of the problem. Then students convivially argue for the next two hours, guided by the instructor. Then break for lunch and keep talking if you want. Then back in the afternoon, where a different instructor gives his/her best argument for why political institutions lack authority, and then students argue and discuss for another 2 hours. Then the students throw water balloons at each other, we have dinner, some evening programming, and students can keep talking and arguing the whole time into the night. On some evenings, instructors will hang out in the lounge areas and go deep talking about students’ philosophical interests until midnight.

I Chalan Mo’na (The Road Ahead) offers promising high school students on Guam the chance to engage with the humanities at a college level. During the summer, rising Seniors will participate in a two-week, residential summer seminar designed around important questions relating to self-determination in the context of Guam’s continued decolonization efforts. Students receive support throughout their senior year with college applications and engage in civic projects that apply their academic insights to real-world challenges.

Oakland University’s Philosophy Camp 2026 will take place on July 13-17, 2026, in Rochester, Michigan. 

Our theme for 2026 will be “Fact and Fiction”. Emily Dickinson once wrote, “Tell all the truth, but tell it slant / Success in circuit lies”. Do people who work in the arts tell the truth slant, or are they not concerned with telling the truth at all? Does art describe the world or shape it – or perhaps shape ourselves? And what about other forms of media? What responsibility does a journalist, a podcaster, or social media poster have to tell the truth when they speak – or can they justify lying because it might promote the common good? We will hammer down on these and other issues with the help of professional philosophers from OU and other universities.

The cost to attend camp is $675, including housing and meals. We offer scholarships to students and families to whom this fee is a hardship. $50 early bird special if registered by April 1st.
