Vincent C. Müller, professor of philosophy and ethics of AI and director of the Centre for Philosophy and AI Research at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, is the winner of the 2025 Covey Award.

The Covey Award is bestowed by the International Association for Computing and Philosophy (IACAP). It  “recognizes senior scholars with a substantial record of innovative research in the field of computing and philosophy broadly conceived.”

Dr. Müller was selected for the prize owing to his work on “philosophical problems connected to artificial intelligence, both from an ethical and a theoretical perspective,” according to the prize announcement, as well as his leadership in the field: he is president of the European Society for Cognitive Systems, chair and co-founder of the Society for the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, chair of the euRobotics topics group on ethical, legal and socio-economic issues, and co-editor of Philosophy of AI. He will deliver the Covey Award Keynote Address at the IACAP 2025 conference taking place at the University of Twente in July.

The Covey Award is named for Preston Covey (1942-2006), a philosopher known for bringing computing and philosophy together.
