Philosophy Essay Contests

Over at Philosophers’ Cocoon, one of their readers asked for help putting together a list of philosophy essay competitions.

There are a few listed there, but I thought I might also ask here for people to share essay prizes that they’re aware of.

Note: Let’s not include on this list journal prizes of the “best article we published this year” type.

There is the ISOS (biennial) essay prize for junior scholars organized by the International Social Ontology Society. The deadline for the current version is 31 Dec.

Also the Annette Baier Prize, from the Australasian Association of Philosophy. Open to women philosophers who are active researchers in “Australasia” (Australia, NZ, SIngapore, … not sure of the *exact* designation of ‘Australasia’, but check website https://aap.org.au/Annette-Baier-Prize)

The Australasian Society of Legal Philosophy has an early career scholar (*) essay competition, open to people from anywhere. Details here (but note the deadline for the next prize is coming up soon.) https://www.aslp.org.au/essay-competition

(*) The description says “early career” but later down it seems to suggest it’s only people who haven’t finished a PhD, so I’m not complerely sure how broad the eligability is there.)
