Book Proposals Invited for Off the Fence: Morality, Politics and Society

We invite proposals for Off the Fence, a Bloomsbury book series dedicated to short, sharply argued texts in applied moral and political philosophy. With an interdisciplinary focus, the series aims to tackle real-world issues through rigorous, relevant, and accessible philosophical analysis. Possible topics might include;

·      Just war for c20th
·      Why is physical violence wrong?
·      Great art: shame about the artist!
·      Commodifying the body
·      What is the role of the individual within structural injustice?
·      Animal ethics
·      The role of shame in morality
·      Honesty in morality/public life

We especially welcome proposals from writers whose identities are under-represented in philosophy publishing, including those based in the Global South and those writing within non-Western philosophical traditions.

If you’re working on or thinking of a project that exemplifies philosophy-in-use, we’d love to hear from you.

Call for Poster Abstracts! The Futures of Philosophy: A Two Day Symposium/Workshop Integrating Philosophical Inquiry into (and beyond) the PK-12 Classroom. Texas A&M University, College Station campus, March 3-4, 2027. Deadline for submissions November 16, 2026. https://liberalarts.tamu.edu/glasscock/futures-of-philosophy/

What does it mean to be human? This question, which used to be confined to a philosophy classroom, now appears in our daily news in response to the dangers and questions posed by generative AI.
With the development of the Philosophy for Children (P4C) program more than 50 years ago at Montclair State University, PK-12 philosophy programs have emerged not only nationwide, but also globally. Although many schools and districts now boast incorporating philosophical inquiry, or more mildly a version of critical thinking, in their schools, many university faculty are still reluctant to engage PK-12 philosophy—either through outreach or introducing these programs on their campuses—despite the proven effectiveness of these programs in K-12 schools and the transformative effect this pedagogy has on college students. Join us for a 2-day interactive symposium in which we will share strategies for both PK-12 teachers and college instructors on how to integrate philosophical inquiry into the PK-12 and university classroom, learn about innovative programs beyond the school, and hear about research pathways to demonstrate the significant impact of philosophical inquiry on young minds. With the changes in technology and concerns about workforce preparation, introducing philosophical inquiry into the PK-12 classroom could not be timelier or more important. This symposium is part of a year-long celebration marking the 30th anniversary of PLATO: Philosophy, Teaching, and Learning Organization (founded by Jana Mohr Lone).
