The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the recipients of its Advanced Grants. Funded by the European Union, the grants, totaling €653 million (approximately $802,000,000), went to 269 senior researchers. There are a number of philosophers among the winners.

They are listed below with the titles of their funded projects:

• Peter Adamson (University of Munich), “Animals in the Philosophy of the Islamic World”
• Mireille Hildebrandt (Free University of Brussels), “Counting as a Human Being in the Era of Computational Law”
• John Hyman (Queen’s College, Oxford University), “The Roots of Responsibility: Metaphysics, Humanity, and Society”
• Manfred Krifka (Humboldt University/Centers for Advanced Studies in the Humanities), “Speech Acts in Grammar and Discourse”
• Jan von Plato (University of Helsinki), “The Gödel Enigma: Unveiling a Hidden Logical Heritage”
• Philippe Schlenker (National Center for Scientific Research/Institut Jean-Nicod), “Sources of Meaning: Grounding Formal Semantics”
• Ibo van de Poel (Delft University of Technology), “Design for changing values: a theory of value change in sociotechnical systems”

The grants are intended to “help expand the frontiers of scientific knowledge, providing the resources necessary to continue ground-breaking, high-risk projects, and ensure Europe’s global competitiveness.”
