Philosophers Among New American Academy of Arts & Sciences Fellows
The American Academy of Arts & Sciences has announced its newly elected members, and a number of philosophers are among them.
In today’s announcement, David Oxtoby, president of the Academy, said:
We honor these artists, scholars, scientists, and leaders in the public, non-profit, and private sectors for their accomplishments and for the curiosity, creativity, and courage required to reach new heights. We invite these exceptional individuals to join in the Academy’s work to address serious challenges and advance the common good.
Seven philosophers were selected:
- Cora Diamond (University of Virginia)
- John M. Fischer (University of California, Riverside)
- James Joyce (University of Michigan)
- Eva Feder Kittay (Stony Brook University)
- Gideon A. Rosen (Princeton University)
- Paul C. Taylor (University of California, Los Angeles)
- Catherine Wilson (University of York)
You can see the complete list of new fellows here. All of the Academy’s philosophy fellows are listed here.
Just to note the typo: it should be “Cora Diamond” rather than “Diamon.”
Congratulations to all! I was a colleague of Catherine Wilson at UBC, briefly, years ago. Not only is she a great scholar, but a decent person, as well. It was a pleasure to work with her.
Very proud to be in their company
Me too.
