I don’t understand why Daily Nous posts this information. Many faculty are on the move, but why do only some of the moves get posted here? I think this just feeds into the elitism of our profession–that only some institutions and their faculty transfers are worth paying attention to.
Typically, announcements of faculty moves are limited to (a) tenured faculty (b) moving to philosophy departments with graduate programs. This is the information I think is generally most useful for current or prospective graduate students, but not just them.
There are sometimes exceptions to these limitations (for example, when a department hires someone without tenure who they plan to immediately tenure upon hiring into a senior position, or when a graduate program hires many people at once I’ll typically announce all of the hires, not just the senior ones) but I try to keep those to a minimum.
