Berman Institute Receives $15 Million Donation

The Berman Institute of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) has received a $15 million donation to “to support the education and training of future leaders in the field of bioethics” and create the Ruth R. Faden Endowment for Education in Bioethics.

Professor Faden, currently Philip Franklin Wagley Professor of Biomedical Ethics at JHU, founded the Berman Institute in 1995.

The gift, from JHU trustee Alexander Levi and his wife, Vicki, follows on the heels of William “Bill” Miller’s $75 million gift to the university’s Department of Philosophy.

According to the Berman Institute, the Faden Endowment will be used to provide support for postdoctoral fellows, tuition support for students in the institute’s bioethics MA program, research and travel funding for PhD students, and leadership training for some fellows and students.
