that was when the daughter decided to learn Chinese: “我饿了(wǒ è le), I + hungry/hunger + [past or perfect tense indicator]” vs. “我是爸爸(wǒ shì bàba), I + am + dad”. It would be silly to say “我是饿的(wǒ shì è de), I + am + hungry/hunger + [adjectives indicator]” in Chinese. 😉

I guess Chinese philosopher dads have to come up with some other cringey joke! 😀 I do wonder what languages this works in and in which it doesn’t. It works in Russian but not in Japanese or French, I think?
