Philosophers Against Malaria Results

The Philosophers Against Malaria competition recently ended. Carolina Flores Henrique (Rutgers) wrote to share the results:

We have come to the end of the ‘Philosophers Against Malaria fundraiser. Over the last two weeks, philosophers in 26 departments across the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia raised $57,246 for the Against Malaria Foundation – one of the most effective charities in the world according to GiveWell, Giving What We Can, and The Life You Can Save, and widely celebrated in the effective altruism movement.

According to GiveWell estimates, this is enough to buy 11,800 insecticide treated bednets, and to avert an expected 16 deaths.

You can find out how much each department raised here. If you think the Against Malaria Foundation is worth supporting year round, you can set up a regular donation here. Also, please get in touch (at [email protected]) if you would like to carry momentum forward by organising an effective altruism reading and/or activism group in your department, or to get updates on the next inter-department activities we organise.
