Philosophy of Jazz

Philosophy of Jazz is a new site—“currently in its initial stages”—on topics at the intersection of jazz and philosophy. The site, created by David C. Ring (Orange Coast College) is set up as an editable wiki, and you can find in the top menu a link to request to become an editor.

I learned of the site via an Aesthetics for Birds post you should check out for further information about it and an upcoming jazz and philosophy conference.

Philosophy of Jazz is organized by philosophical subfield and specific topics, such as improvisation, song identity, and mistakes. It looks like the start of a valuable online resource, especially if a few of you cats joined in.

In the meanwhile, here are two different excellent jazz tunes that happen to have the same name:

Beyond the Ivory Tower. Workshop for academics on writing short pieces for wide audiences on big questions. Taking place October 18th to 19th. Application deadline July 30th. Funding provided.
