Bernecker Selected as Humboldt Professor at Cologne (updated)


Sven Bernecker, professor of philosophy at the University of California, Irvine, is one of the recipients of the latest round of Humboldt Professorships. The award, which includes 3.5 million euros, will bring him to the University of Cologne. Professor Bernecker works in epistemology, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, Kant, and German Idealism. According to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation site, “in Cologne, the Humboldt Professor is due to found and head a Centre for Contemporary Epistemology and Kantian Tradition.” He is the only philosopher in the current group of Humboldt Professorship winners. UPDATE (4/19/16): Professor Bernecker writes that he will be taking up the Humboldt Professorship in Cologne starting in July, 2016, and that he will retain a fractional appointment at UC Irvine where he will spend one quarter each year.
