Nietzsche and the Suburbs

The suburbs.
How deeply we are lost! So deep that we do not know we are lost. How derelict we are! So great that we do not know our dereliction.

In an infinite universe, there will be a faraway planet with a suburb just like this one. And there will be you and I talking, looking up at the stars.

The madness of the suburbs: who knows it but you?
Your madness: that you know the madness of the suburbs.

These are excerpts from the blog, Nietzsche and the Burbs, a compilation of notes for a novel-in-progress by Lars Iyer (author of Wittgenstein Jr., for which there was also a blog, as well as a trio of academic novels).
