A Library of Well-Reasoned Arguments

Joshua Frankel wrote in to share a new collaborative opensource website project he and others are developing called Whysaurus. The idea is to

create a repository of the best arguments for any idea, where emotional manipulation and flowery rhetoric are removed, leaving only the core statements, arranged in a network. So the next time a discussion touches a difficult issue we, denizens of the internet, have a repository of the best structured argument to draw upon to support our position. For controversial ideas, search has not lived up to its promise: it gives us vitriol, ads, spam and celebrity. There is a better way to organize the information we care about.

The site is looking for people to try it out and be contributors and editors. Read their “manifesto” to get more of a sense of what they’re up to.

Beyond the Ivory Tower. Workshop for academics on writing short pieces for wide audiences on big questions. Taking place October 18th to 19th. Application deadline July 30th. Funding provided.
