Faculty Non-Renewals, Staff Layoffs, and Threats to Philosophy at Ohio University
Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) has told at least 140 of its staff they will be laid off and has begun issuing non-renewal notices to both non-tenure and tenure-track faculty in an attempt to “grapple with a budget crisis that started even before the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.” (more…)

Developments at St. Cloud State University
In September, the administration of St. Cloud State University announced it was proceeding with plans for “retrenchment”  that will result in philosophy professors, theatre professors, and librarians losing their jobs. There is the possibility that the administration will rescind these plans, and there is now a petition calling on them to do so. (more…)

Schoubye from Edinburgh to Stockholm
Andres Schoubye, currently lecturer in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, has accepted an offer of a senior lectureship in the Department of Philosophy at Stockholm University.
Philosophy at Two-Year Colleges
Approximately 90% of community colleges offer courses in philosophy, and those courses are taken by roughly 255,000 to 275,000 students per term, or about 4% of the enrolled students, according to recent research by Humanities Indicators (HI). (more…)

Leeds Declares Punitive Pay Measures Against Faculty; Philosophers Respond By Resigning As External Examiners
The University of Leeds has told its faculty and staff that they will not be paid while on strike, and will be docked 25% for each day, after they’ve returned to work, that they fail to reschedule class time missed during the strike, according to Leeds Live. (more…)
