The Board of Officers of the American Philosophical Association (APA) has elected Dominic McIver Lopes, Distinguished University Scholar and Professor of philosophy at the University of British Columbia, as its next chair.
Professor Lopes has served in many leadership roles in the APA, including that of secretary-treasurer of the Pacific Division from 2008 to 2016. He is also the winner of the APA’s 2018 Quinn Prize, which is awarded “in recognition of service to philosophy and philosophers, broadly construed.” He is also president of the Canadian Philosophical Association.
Professor Lopes will be succeeding current chair Chesire Calhoun (Arizona State University). He begins his three-year term as Board Chair on July 1st, 2020.
