Albrecht Wellmer (1933-2018)


Albrecht Wellmer, emeritus professor of philosophy at Free University of Berlin, died on September 13th, age 85.

Professor Wellmer is known for his work on the philosophy of music and the philosophy of language. Prior to joining the Free University iof Berlin in 1990, he held appointments at the University of Konstanz and the New School for Social Research, the Max Planck Institute, and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

Other philosophers focus more on performing: conveying the classics or the ‘new music’ to new generations of budding connoisseurs… Wellmer was both.”
